Tempeh Sloppy Joe


1 - 8 oz package of SoyBoy Organic Tempeh
(Soy or 5-Grain) - crumbled
1 large onion - diced
1 red pepper - diced
2 cloves of garlic - chopped
1 cup tomato sauce or 1 - 15oz can
2 tablespoon soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon chili power
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 crusty rolls or 8 slices of crusty bread


Heat oil in a heavy sauté pan on medium-high and add tempeh. When the tempeh becomes a golden color add the onions. When onions become translucent add the red pepper and garlic. Once garlic becomes fragrant add cumin, salt, black pepper, chili powder, tomato sauce, and soy sauce. After 2 minutes, reduce heat to medium and stir occasionally for 10 minutes. Serve on toasted crusty bread or rolls.


Recipe also works well with SoyBoy Tofu, which has been pressed to remove excess moisture and crumbled, in place of tempeh.
